Tech Camp for Girls

Butte College Tech Camp for Girls

The third annual Tech Camp for Girls, sponsored by the Computer Science Department and Women In Nontraditional Careers Coalition (WINCC), will be held at Butte College on April 1, from 9 a.m to 3 p.m.

It will be a day full of fun and technology with activities ranging from building a computer, programming, learning about circuits with Arduinos from Cheyanne Taylor-Pacheco, and learning how the internet works. Students will explore exciting careers in technology and guest speaker Lacey Sanders will discuss her experience as a Geographic Information System (GIS) Analyst.

“Studies have shown that middle school is when girls start to lose interest in math and science. The event encourages their interest in technology, math, and science through hands on activities. We have a full group registered with 50 students," said April Browne, Butte College Computer Science Instructor. “Young women are underrepresented in the tech industry as a whole. It’s such a wonderful experience to share my passion of technology, explore the many IT careers available, and show the girls how the technology and devices we depend on every day work," said Linda Fischer, Butte College Computer Science Instructor.
